Wimmera Bowls Region pennant season commences
The 2025-26 Wimmera Bowls Regon pennant lawn bowls season will commence this Saturday, when Nhill Bowling Club will aim to replicate its success 2024-25 season.
After claiming last season’s division one title in a close grand final encounter with Horsham City, Nhill will host last year’s grand final opponent in this week’s opening-round encounter.
Nhill Bowling Club secretary Barry Cramer says the side is optimistic of a potential premiership repeat.
“We will have basically much the same side as last year,” Cramer said.
“It'd be just a couple of little alterations here and there with some people stepping up and some people getting a bit older and stepping down.
“I think most of the division one contingent are somewhat confident to do well again this year.
“This first round is a replay of the grand final.”
In other division one clashes on Saturday, Sunnyside will host Dimboola, Coughlin Park meets Horsham Golf, and Kaniva will face Goroke-Edenhope.
As well as their division one success, Nhill saw their division two and three sides make last season’s grand finals, with Cramer saying finals appearances across all divisions this season would mark another successful season.
“To have three teams in grand finals last year, we can’t remember that happening in club history, Cramer said.
“We’ll be looking to make finals in each division.”
Division two's round one action will see last year’s premiers Coughlin Park host Horsham City, Natimuk will travel to Horsham Golf Bowls Club, Sunnyside hosts Dimboola, and Nhill meets Goroke-Edenhope.
Division three will have the two Nhill sides play each other, Coughlin Park three hosts Sunnyside, Horsham City hosts Kaniva, and Coughlin Park four goes up against Horsham Golf.
