Hopetoun residents came together on Sunday, October 19, for a Getting to Know You gathering at the Bush Retreat, rekindling a sense of community connection and conversation.

Around 40 people attended the event, which aimed to strengthen ties between long-term locals and newer residents.

The project was coordinated by Kerry Conway, Susan Pearse and Claire White, who also compiled a list of nearly 50 local organisations and contact persons, now available at the Neighbourhood House.

Organiser Kerry Conway said the day was a success.

“It was good to see a lot of people attend the event,” she said.

“They were all gathered, chatting all the time and enjoyed the day.”

The gathering followed ongoing efforts to reconnect the community, after many long-time residents said they no longer recognised as many familiar faces around town.

With the rise of visitors brought by the Silo Trail and an influx of new residents attracted by Hopetoun’s affordable housing, good facilities and friendly atmosphere, locals said the event was a welcome opportunity to meet and mingle.
